When installed correctly, Recycled Rubber Products rubber mulch will last for years without bio-degrading. To properly install Play-Safe rubber mulch, border the play area using rubber timbers. Another option would be to border the play area using treated 6” x 6” timbers purchased from a local hardware store. Stack the timbers two high, one below grade and the other on top, and nail them together using spikes.
After the border is installed, dig out the grass in the play area inside the timbers. Install a weed barrier which can be purchased from the same local hardware store. Spread a thin layer of sand on top to secure the weed barrier. Finally, spread the rubber chips into the play area and level it out.
Proper installation will ensure Play-Safe will not blow away and will drain well even after a heavy rain. Rain will not prevent children from playing within minutes of a downpour.
See your playground instruction manual regarding their recommendation on which to install first--the playground equipment or Play-Safe rubber mulch.
